Council to discuss library, Cordelia Heights

FAIRFIELD
- The city will have to choose a different contractor to build the Fairfield Cordelia Library, and it's going to cost more, according to a staff report.

The lowest bid on the project was submitted by San Leandro-based Sausal Corp. for $8.9 million, but the company discovered it had misjudged the costs and pulled back its bid.

That means West Coast Contractors Inc. of Fairfield has the lowest bid at $9.3 million, about $100,000 more than the city estimated it would cost.

The bids were for the base costs only. The entire cost of the project, which includes equipment and other costs, will be about $14 million, according to the report.

That's one of the items coming up at this week's City Council meeting.

City leaders will also consider the final plan for the Cordelia Heights subdivision, a 13-acre development that will include 25 homes. The land is located south of Putah South Canal and north of Mangels Boulevard.

Hofmann Construction Co. wants the council to approve the subdivision agreement and final map.

Each home in Cordelia Heights, also called La Vita E Bella, will sell for about $1 million, according to city estimates in a staff report.
